[P2P Foundation] And that, I would argue, is a result of what Wikipedia fundamentally is: its not a controlled, even controllable, well-organised mechanism for developing a reliable knowledge base that asymptotically approaches perfection through careful editorial quality control processes (as encyclopaedias of the traditional type may once have claimed to be), but something much more unruly - a sometimes messy, self-organising, continuously unfinished collaborative process that relies not on hierarchical structures, but on the wisdom of crowds for its quality control processes.

Can $890000 Make MediaWiki Useful?
[ReadWriteWeb] WYSIWYG editors are already available for MediaWiki through extensions, but the potential for corrupting the data that makes up Wikipedia's encyclopedic content is very real. Avoiding that scenario is primarily what lead the Initiative to discount a switch to WYSIWYG, at least within the scope of the project.

The Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year 2008 | MetaFilter
[MetaFilter] while the popularity contest has mixed results, its very exciting to see a proliferation of creative commons material available. Like Wikipedia, its importance will grow as the library of materials grows more expansive (unlike Wikipedia, the quality of material will not be governed by consensus, although the quantity may grow overwhelming).

Ban Ki-moon's Wikipedia page jacked | UN Dispatch
[UN Dispatch] I was checking out Ban Ki-moon's Wikipedia entry this morning (like I do every morning) and BAM! It's been hijacked by some pretty desparate Tamils.

Acid2 Featured On Wikipedia | Robert Accettura's Fun With Wordage
[Robert Accettura's Fun With Wordage] The mention of the Acid3 article reminded me that while FF 3.0 was finalized it was said that Acid3 would be supported by the next version of Firefox. This promise was apparently forgotten after the FF 3.0 release as even mozilla-trunk still doesn’t reach 100 more than a year later (mozilla-1.9.1 only reaches 93 here).

HipMojo.com » Why Twitter Reminds Me of Wikipedia
[HipMojo.com] Wikipedia grew because it was a non-profit, open source encyclopedia. Similarly, Twitter grew (amongst other reasons) because it was a free and its API spawned a thousand of products and services (some/many more useful than itself). So I wonder, if history repeats itself, the Twitter guys might feel a bit like Jimbo Wales does these days: proud of his accomplishment but a bit regretful of not having captured the value that he created.

[Untitled] First off, the article could easily have had more citations to satisfy Wikipedia's verifiability requirements (which are absolutely necessary as Wikipedia is a tertiary source). The fulfillment of notability guidelines (which are just that-- guidelines) basically follows easily once something is verifiable.

Britannica Boss Trash Talks Google And Wikipedia | Techdirt
[Techdirt] I'm not sure I agree on either point (and, to be honest, there are times I do Google searches and am upset when the top result is not to a Wikipedia entry -- as I've come to almost expect it now), but even if we grant Cauz the premise that (a) Wikipedia has quality problems and (b) Google favors Wikipedia too much, it still seems slightly worrisome that Cauz is even trash talking about those issues. Obviously, it wouldn't make sense to ignore either company, but a good CEO focuses on his company's own strengths in interviews and avoids trashing the competition most of the time.
