[Witty's Blog] Part 2: Making Wikipedia “GLAM-friendly” | Witty's Blog: Not really an essay, wikiproject, or policy page, it’s more of a place for people to seek advice written in terms that they can (hopefully) relate to.  So, whilst the advice written there isn’t unique or qualitatively different from the advice on other pages across Wikipedia, it brings together all of the information relevant to people from the GLAM sector, gives relevant examples, and provides a forum for asking questions to people who are interested in improving GLAM-WIKI relations.

[The Monkey Cage] The Monkey Cage: The end of Wikipedia . . . I can see it now!: I wasn’t trying to imply anything unusual about Sourcewatch’s use of the look and feel of Wikipedia. [Green Marketing 2.0| SEO SEM Social Media Consulting - Lorna Li] Why Wikipedia Dominates SERPs : Green Marketing 2.0| SEO SEM ...: it costs a fortune to serve a top 10 site without ads, and being at the top of every Google search means a lot of stuff (biographies of living people in particular) need harsh constraints on their content because they have to be not-awful right now, meaning we don’t have time to take our time and get things just right.

[Managing Greatness] Should Wikipedia Give Charity or Take It | Managing Greatness: I’m thankful that we live in a society where neither I nor anybody else can force the Wikimedia Foundation to fulfill their potential of contributing hundreds of millions of dollars a year to worthwhile charities. And I repeat my opinion that the Wikimedia Foundation is doing a great deal of good.

"Hayek's work onprice theory is central to my own thinking about how to manage theWikipedia project," Wales wrote on the blog of the Internet lawguru Lawrence Lessig. "One can't understand my ideas aboutWikipedia without understanding Hayek." Long before socialismcrumbled, Hayek saw the perils of centralization.

[jill/txt] jill/txt » wikipedia academy talk: What Wikipedia really need is people able to apply the intention, and think of what would be best for the encyclopaedia, not rule-pushers and straightliners. Many rule-pushers claim they want more rules in order to get quality, a limited set of rules can help, but the general rule is that there are always people enforcing them as they are written - to the letter, not being able to see and move in the grey areas in between.

[Witty's Blog] WIkipedia Journal | Witty's Blog: Some things that earn points are publishing a book, teaching courses and writing scholarly journal articles. One thing that certainly doesn’t earn points is helping to maintain the quality of the content on Wikipedia in the academic’s area of expertise - this is despite the fact that that is precisely where 90% of their students will turn to first to get some background information.
