Openpedia.org > MediaWiki API (Scripting News)

[Scripting News] Well, thanks to Andrew Burton I got access to a MediaWiki installation with the API turned on, and I was able to make a couple of trivial calls successfully, but I hit a wall when it came to doing the thing I set out to do. I have no doubt from reading the docs that it's possible, I just can't figure out what the dance is.

Some related posts from Technorati and Google.

[Scripting News] MediaWiki API, day 2 (Scripting News): But today I took the first step, to find out that it is possible to turn off the API, and that the test wikis people have been kind enough to let me play with have it turned off. (It defaults on.)

[Peter V. Mørch's site] Documentation, Git and MediaWiki | Peter V. Mørch's site: DocBook has the same disadvantages as HTML, but the advantage that it can be exported to so many formats, but it is also cumbersome to write without the aid of an application for at least completion of the valid tags and attributes. (Disclaimer: I don’t have any actual experience with DocBook.)

[Mcstrother's Blog] Artery Project 1: Scraping Wikipedia « Mcstrother's Blog: As I suspected, there aren't any specific language bindings (and the 3rd party attempts so far don't look like they're worth messing around with) .The next step is to make a nice visualizaiton and upload the data to freebase, but assuming the name-cleaning worked, those steps should be trivial.

[Kayako Forums] how to add a menu link and iframe within staff cp? | Kayako ...: We would like to add a menu item on the Staff CP dashboard page and link it to our MediaWIKI website within the framework of the eSupport staff page, without opening a new window upon clicking the link. This is possible, but significantly non-trivial and strongly not recommended.

[Advogato blog for ensonic] Advogato: Blog for ensonic: I can now load a song, make changes in the pattern editor, ctrl-c/kill the app and replay the log when starting it again. There are a couple of details that need to be cleanup and some things need a bit more thinking: Next I will implement this in larger scale also.

[katzching!] MediaWiki Hack; Automatic API links in source code: So I figured I’d just patch the SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi extension to do automatic identification and linkifying of libxml2 API symbols instead. It turned out to be easier than I thought.

[Labs] Semantic MediaWiki - Creative Commons: With Semantic MediaWiki, it becomes trivial to create a new field in a form and associated property in the template, or if you have an existing structure for that type of data, to modify the kinds of data that property accepts. You could even change the allowed values for a property or change the data type and easily fix any incompatibilities that arise.

[Openpedia.org] mediawiki API (Scripting News): Well, thanks to Andrew Burton I got access to a mediawiki installation with the API turned on, and I was able to make a couple of trivial calls successfully, but I hit a wall when it came to doing the thing I set out to .

[Twitter Fan Wiki] Twitter Fan Wiki / Bots: This suggests several things for the future of applications that take advantage of Twitter: for example, you could create a service that takes in commands, via Twitter, from various input devices. For a business, there is a cost-saving to be had, as well as a rapid launch and the flexibility of multiple ways of interacting with people.

[SlideShare Blog] MediaWiki SlideShare extension! | SlideShare Blog: I'm reminded that RSS and embed codes are powerful integration points with any system. It's easy to forget that a lot of the time, a formal REST API isn't even necessary in order to build a mashup!

[绿马甲的窝] InfoWorld 2008 BOSSIE 年度最佳开源软件奖1_绿马甲的窝_百度空间: The appeal of MediaWiki, the original application written for Wikipedia, goes far beyond the trademark look, navigation, and page editing -- though there's clearly value in using software that most users already know. Administrators should find MediaWiki simple to install, upgrade, and maintain.
