[Silicon Alley Insider: iPhone] Is Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales an Embezzler?: A short time later, in an e-mail exchange with her fellow board members, Devouard reported that she had convinced the Associated Press that "the money story was a no story." Yet she proceeded to indicate the opposite, upbraiding Wales for having asked the foundation to pay the steakhouse tab. "I find (it) tiring to see how you are constantly trying to rewrite the past," she wrote to Wales in the message, which was obtained by the AP.

[bit-tech.net News Feed] bit-tech.net | Wikipedia bans all of Qatar after encyclovandalism: Wikipedia would normally ban the offending editors IP but that isnt possible with Qatar, as all web traffic is routed through one single IP. [.net > Discover] Whats the deal with Wikipedia? - .net magazine: I know they do yearly reports and I could sift through them all and probably the numbers would add up just fine, but all I ever hear is the shock and horror that Wikipedia could close any minute now, so we better give them more money. I don't think this is true, I think the physical aspects of the hosting and bandwidth are covered (or could be done for a lot less), and even if every member of staff and all of the trustees were fired today, the community behind Wikiepdia would keep things running just as well, if not better.
[R. Stuart Geiger] Do you support Wikipedia? News from the Trenches of the Science ...: this work is a critical examination of the way in which the on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia has been implicitly cast as a continuation of the Science Wars. Instead of debating about the efficacy and authority of science, academics are now debating the efficacy and authority of Wikipedia. Using Martin Heidegger’s work on ontology and technology, I argue that this particular academic mindset is a way of being-in-the-world that works to either affirm or negate the integration of Wikipedia into its particular projects - namely, the production of academic knowledge. However, I show that asking whether Wikipedia is a reliable academic source enframes Wikipedia into an objectless standing-reserve of potential citations, foreclosing many other possibilities for its use. Instead of following Steven Colbert and countless academics by asking what Wikipedia has done to reality, I ask: what have we done to Wikipedia in the name of reality?
[X Style Blog Spot] Whats the deal with Wikipedia? | X Style Blog Spot: But last year Wikimedia Foundations chairperson Florence Devouard revealed that its never more than three months away from closure. Although she later played down her statement, it highlights how funding is an ongoing issue for the worlds encyclopedia, which faces perpetual uncertainty thanks to a model that relies on donation drives rather than selling advertising.

If you also took the time to read it you'll note that I said "I smell a begging bluff on this one"...meaning that I didn't believe that Wikipedia would shut down because lets face it, the chances of this happening, no matter what she did or didn't say, are pretty close to zero.
