[Untitled] While Senge's works are not unpopular among successful learning organizations, his ideas appear to be singularly unpopular among the core cabal of dysfunctional organizations like Wikipedia. The ruling cabal of the Wikimedia Foundation appears to be allergic to Senge's ideas, and unhappy with anyone who has the temerity to introduce his recommended Best Ethical Practices into the Wikisphere.

[Untitled] Andrew Keen - Fighting online child porn: That’s the Web 2.0 style self-policing model of websites like Wikipedia which, supposedly, are able to use wisdom-of-the-crowd mechanisms to weed out child pornography. However, Wikipedia’s failure to rid itself of the highly inappropriate cover art of Virgin Killer gives me little confidence in this childishly idealistic model.

[Untitled] The Wonderful Wicked WikiPedia! « Azania: However I do think that, except in certain well justified cases such as when there is the possibility of being transported on a US ghost plane to Europe or Afghanistan for what horrors lay in wait at a dark and secret location, WikiPedia would be a better product (in the mathematical and not the commercial sense) if authors were expected to identify themselves. I haven’t read the FAQs so I don’t know the rationale behind allowing so much anonymity - the answer is probably what Donald Rumsfeld would call an unknown known.

[Untitled] Truth Vandals? | MetaFilter: I guess this is very meta since it's a popular culture reference itself, but Wikipedia's "In Popular Culture" sections remind me me of that episode of the Simpsons where Marge has made a cake for a party, and Homer comes in and starts trying to eat all the individual candy letters and roses off it.

[Untitled] Joseph Reagle - Equality, gender, and speech in open communities ...: This led to WikiChix being detached from any support or formal affiliation with Wikipedia. I conclude by arguing this break from open but focus-friendly subgroups should only be a last resort and we should better understand the circumstances that necessitate it.

[Untitled] Rough Type: Nicholas Carr's Blog: Crowd control at eBay: Probably a year or so ago, all those stories broke out about the apparent "cabal" which seems to regulate (and badmouth) some individual editors, and about the cultish aura surrounding "Jimbo." Regardless of the factual accuracy of those stories (and I have little reason to doubt them), they showed how people perceived Wikipedia. Since then, people probably became disillusioned by Wikipedia.

[Untitled] Ms Placed Democrat » Martial Law And The Bailout (Update): Apparently the Wikipedia entry for the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act is incorrect. The changes to the Insurrection Act have not beem repealed.

[Untitled] Coup d’état: Seven Days In May « THE “G” BLOG @WordPress.com: Since the unsuccessful coup attempts of Wolfgang Kapp in 1920, and of Adolf Hitler in 1923, the Swiss German word “Putsch” (pronounced /pÊŠtʃ/) (originally coined with the Züriputsch of 1839) is often used also, even in French (such as the putsch of November 8, 1942 and the putsch of April 21, 1961, both in Algiers) and Russian ( August Putsch in 1991), while the direct German translation is Staatsstreich.

[Untitled] Sisyphus Shrugged - oh dear: She certainly can lied with the best of rest of the Bush administration but, thanks to her academic hair-splitting book smarts, can dissemble better than most of them and, you may have noticed, prudently avoids testifying under oath, under one pretense/excuse or another.

[Untitled] Charles II of England: Biography from Answers.com: Fearing that the Exclusion Bill would be passed, and bolstered by some acquittals in the continuing Plot trials, which seemed to him to indicate a more favourable public mood towards Catholicism, Charles dissolved the English Parliament, for a second time that year, in the summer of 1679. Charles's hopes for a more moderate Parliament were not fulfilled, within a few months he had dissolved Parliament yet again, after it sought to pass the Exclusion Bill.

[Untitled] Vietnam War: Definition from Answers.com: On 2 September 1945 at Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh issued the historic Vietnamese proclamation of independence with words borrowed from the American Declaration of Independence: "We hold the truth that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Ho Chi Minh—who four years earlier had founded the League for Revolution and Independence, or Vietminh—had been preparing his entire life for the opportunity to rid Vietnam of colonial rule, both Japanese and French.
