[Techdirt] As a side note, I'm not necessarily defending wikipedia and neither am I agreeing with what they're doing. I'm just defending their right to promote a social movement that disagrees with you and ignore the ones that agree with you and I also support your right to put up whatever wiki you want and to do the same.

[Neon Tommy] Charles Johnson And His Little Green Footballs: Holding Down The ...: This the hour of the WingNuts: those who HATE muslims, who believe the U.S. could and should make war at will, who think Sarah Palin is something else other than a duplicitous airhead, who think Obama is an illegal alien and aren't that crazy about black people to begin with, who think the earth is cooling, that worrying about the environment is for sissies and fags and who spend way too much time sniffing their own armpits or the creases in their thighs. In fact, Charles is pretty much just a normal guy -- at least compared to these gila monsters.

[The Wikipedia Review] Is Wikipedia biased? - The Wikipedia Review: The person from the general audience, the average Joe who loves watching baseball, soccer, football and drinks good beer, and probably plays D&D and RPG games with his friends, may also mature some skills to become an internet warrior and become more adept at Wikipedia than the person who likes Aristotle.

[FailedMessiah.com] FailedMessiah.com: BREAKING! JTA Traces Fake Rabbi Morris Allen ...: Comment as Afd initiator - I won't endorse one way or the other, but given that WP:NEO is explicit about requiring multiple independent, reliable sources that are about, and not simply mention, the subject, which of the sources listed at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/LoHo verify that LoHo a widely recognized name and/or the topic isn't redundant with Lower East Side, Manhattan? The Miami Herald/KC Star piece seems to come the closest, but the others either aren't RS or mention LoHo in passing (and one doesn't mention the neighborhood at all, referring instead to Lindsay Lohan and a club in MePa).

[Language Log] Language Log » Rhymes: I've always thought (and I offer this thought tentatively, without any having systematically investigated the matter) that what seems like the relative paucity of rhymes in English, in contrast to languages like French, Italian and above all Russian, and maybe even German, too, is at least in part related to the absence in English of an extensive morphology with a large array of patterned word endings. It's the other side of the coin to the feature of English that allows us to verb nouns and noun verbs so easily.

[Charlie's Space] Steph's blog - Where Racism meets naivety « Charlie's Space: The most bizarre thing of all is that post takes the point that America thinks that it is a tolerant country when really it isn’t, Steph should look in the mirror as American isn’t the only thing that thinks that it is tolerant but clearly is not.

[Mises Economics Blog] A Libertarian Green Responds to Climategate - Jeffrey Tucker ...: There has been an unrelenting quarter century of one-sided indoctrination of the western world by the media and by various scientists and governments concerning a coming carbon dioxide (CO_2 ) induced global warming disaster. These warming scenarios have been orchestrated by a combination of environmentalists, vested interest scientists wanting larger federal grants and publicity, the media which profits from doomsday scenario reporting, governmental bureaucrats who want more power over our lives, and socialists who want to level-out global living standards.

[TheNextWeb.org] The People versus The Expert: I totally disagree with the skeptics who argue the expertise of knowledge presented within the Wikipedia. I think the argument was best summed up, at the end by the guy who said the Wikipedia should be considered as the sum of 'all' knowledge not just the sum .

I first read about him, if I remember correctly, earlier this decade in one of Reader’s Digest’s regular articles against pork-barrel spending.

[The BrandBuilder Blog] Let's get constructive about the future of Social Media ...: To keep things simple, I hopped over to wikipedia and find this about the word accreditation: Accreditation is a process in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented. Currently, many “certifications” tend to look at the social media “profession” as a form of general mass of quasi-expertise ranging from how to manage a blog, start a facebook fan page and customize a twitter account to how to measure ROI and manage online communities.

[dotCommonweal] dotCommonweal » Blog Archive » Conscience and Culture Wars-and Lawyers: Here’s the closest I get to her notion: “It strikes me, and I may be wrong, that a hallmark of the culture wars is instrumental analysis and reasoning about matters of law and public policy Culture warriors make an argument because it advances their view of the way things should be -the merits ”” on an ad hoc basis-and make a different argument on a different issue. Arguments are simply tools to defend positions that are held on other grounds.”

Thus, many of us are left troubled, wondering, for what non-Biblical reason American political figures like Palin and Huckabee, who are most popular among Evangelicals (but certainly not Jews), are advancing a hardline stance that would be extremely problematic if promoted by Israeli leaders, themselves.

[Mises Economics Blog] Why Some People Are Poorer - Mises Daily - Mises Economics Blog: In such a political economy, the rise and fall of many lines of industry and commerce (e.g., real estate) are to a large extent determined by Fed-manipulated interest rates--over which (taking real estate as an example) realtors, construction companies, house-buyers, renters, and landlords have little to no control. Yet these people are very much affected by the decisions made by the Fed chairman, who is very much insulated from democratic accountability to the same people most affected by his decisions (not to mention the presidents who appoint him).
