chriswaterguy: Google vs wikis
[Pablo Garuda] It's particularly bad if looking up hotels or hostels in a certain location - the commercial sites that promise hotels in every location appear to have Google fooled into showing their sites, rather than actual useful sites. They clog the top results to the extent that it's hard to find a genuine page.

SLA 23 Things Week 7 Wikis Part 2 : meldinme
[meldinme] I decided to create a wiki in Wikispaces rather than within my SLA membership space (this I’ll do later) or using Wikimedia through my ISP, since time is running out to meet the December 15th SLA 23 Things deadline. I figure I can get a feel for wiki principles without the steeper learning curve of all the technical details I’ll need to learn for the other options.

German Federal Archives Donate Pictures to Wikimedia Commons ...

Nonbovine Ruminations: Wikimedia vs. Internet Watch Foundation
[Untitled] On one hand, we have ISPs imposing filtering that their customers haven't specifically asked for, using filter lists from a self-governing third party that appears to be responsible to no one, so as to require the filtering of an image that is almost certainly not illegal under the relevant law. The filtering is done so badly that it fails to block most uses of the content that is alleged to be illegal, and also blocks content which is not alleged to be illegal (specifically, the text of the article about the album, which is not alleged to violate any law at all).
