Week5: Wikis, not so wacky
[gchord] be it education crisis, taxes or teenagers, and listeners ring in or SMS or email and give their 2c worth. Some are informed on the subject, others not, but through steady contributions, disagreements and corrections and a guiding hand from the host and a ready finger paused over the “kill”

[Trey's E-Learning] Many in our group were unaware of wikis except for Wikipedia. While wikis arent the answer to every online need, they certainly can be an efficient means to document processes and build collaborative databases, for example.

An American Teaching in Asia Reports on Why Japan Loves Wikis
[Sharing at Work] . The only thing I could even think of is the nature of the Japanese-language Web. Even now, most Japanese portals (and web pages for that matter) are basically link pages - there is surprisingly little multimedia content. That's possibly because the majority of Japanese don't actually browse the Internet on PCs.. most regularly browse the Web on their mobile phones, which are far more advanced than anything in the rest of the world (mainly because the network is different, and the manufacturers only produce phones for Japan). Therefore, Japanese websites are traditionally image-light, and have lots of links. I would guess that's why they like wikis so much; it appeals to their sense of what's "right" about an Internet site.

Using Wikis in the K-12 classroom
[Sciencegeekgirl] Lets take the course of study mentioned above as the example: Start with a single wiki page that outlines the concepts that will be covered throughout the year. Focusing a little more specifically on science, lets say you intend to cover: weather, systems of the body, and electricity.

More Biden Wiki Wackiness: A Whole Year Disappears
[NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias] Perhaps you should actually try reading the article in question--I'm not talking about older revisions. You people are sitting here going on and on and on about how Biden's McCain "endorsement" was removed from the article, but it is STILL IN THE ARTICLE. The fact that none of you has bothered to actually even read the article--which was reformatted, into a superior article--makes you come across as very, very stupid people.

[Wikipedia | Foundation] If there no local community to speak of it should be a steward issue, and no election of checkuser should be necessary. If there is a local community and this report is accurate, I cannot imagine more insurmountable error that could be made in good faith.

Wikis for internal documentation
[Science Notes] A wiki has the advantage that anyone who notices wrong information can change it. The human resources department, the person who tried to call the old title holder and tracked down the new one, or the new incumbent can all take a moment to update contact information.
