Wikipedia is not a “free” “neutral encyclopedia”, it is only a site that is by the rich, for the rich.

http://wikipediaocd.wordpress.com [ Wikipedia generated Obsessive-compulsive disorder] The pictures that are uploaded will never reflect the poor people, those pics are taken by rich people who have leisure time and who can buy digital cameras. Even for those wikipedia generated OCD patients, they can spend hours on there, because they don’t need to work so many hours a day, and they don’t have to worry about where to get the money for the rent, food, etc.

This American Life & The Great American Stories

http://higheredmarketingblog.wordpress.com [ The Higher Ed Marketing Blog] I won’t say Ira Glass is my hero because the image, the concept of hero has been commercialized, overused and, (as Amerian media is wont to do,) driven into the dusty bargain bin of overused words, phrases and slogans.

Wikipedia Hoax Falsely Reports Sinbad’s Death

http://idiggi.blogspot.com [Bigger Digger News] Along with factual errors and deliberate hoaxes, Wikipedia recently became the subject of scrutiny as it was found that Wiki-insiders obtained their position with false credentials. This led to further speculation about just how credible Wikipedia is as a source of information, and the web site quickly went into damage control mode to assert itself as a legitimate online encyclopedia.

Wikipedia, credentials and authority

[weaverluke] Essjay's great sin - the reason Wales [Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia's co-founder and effective leader] ultimately sent him into exile - wasn't that he lied to the press but that he hoodwinked his fellow Wikipedians, that he used his fake credentials to get them to grant him deference in editing articles. In making his proposal to adopt a formal credentialing process, Wales is simply underscoring what is now obvious: at Wikipedia, credentials matter, whether genuine or fake.

Essjay Departure, Questions Remain for The New Yorker

[Andrew Lih] In an e-mail message on Friday, The New Yorker’s deputy editor, Pamela Maffei McCarthy, said: “We were comfortable with the material we got from Essjay because of Wikipedia’s confirmation of his work and their endorsement of him. In retrospect, we should have let our readers know that we had been unable to corroborate Essjay’s identity beyond what he told us.”
