Online chat on Wikipedia in the Academy

http://alex.halavais.net [a thaumaturgical compendium] This was behind a pay-wall before now, but the Chronicle of Higher Ed has an article on the relationship between Wikipedia and academia. I was quoted in there, and it focusses a little on the Isuzu Experiment but I guess that’s not all bad.

Permanent Link to Still Want To Drop That Link Into Wikipedia?

http://www.seoidiot.com/seoblog [www.seoidiot.com] An interesting thread has been started on the SEW Forums regarding a paragraph in the Wikipedia External Linking Guide. It discusses the possibility of sharing link spam data with Google (and presumably other interested parties) in order to monitor and potentially penalise spammers.

Across the universe

[Channel Surfing] So by that logic, and I've touched on this before, new Aaron Sorkin show "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" must also be in its own, unique universe. Specifically because of the fake network they work on, "NBS." It was easy to accept on "Sports Night" because they were on a fictional cable network, and there are a million of those out there, but a fake network is a little weirder, since the fact that there are three big ones since the dawn of TV (and NBS is certainly presented as storied as ABC, CBS and NBC) is a pretty huge part of television history.

WikiPod brings (some of) Wikipedia to your iPod

[Engadget] Being the highly edumicated folks we are, we prefer to lug a complete set of the Encyclopedia Britannica in a cart wherever we go, but we suppose the proletariat might prefer something a bit more convenient. For them there's this new "WikiPod" script from Matt Swann that pulls down a wiki page, along with all of the pages it links to -- and all the pages they link to and so forth -- until it hits the maximum megabytes you specify, or bumps up against Apple's 1000 note limit for the iPod.

Wikipedia spam?
