FLOSS: Jimmy Wales Interview
[Andrew Lih] Leo Laporte and Chris DiBona do a good indepth interview with Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia on the FLOSS Weekly, a podcast that does not shy away from talking about deep technical issues. Deserves a good listen.

California, or The Wizard comes to DVD
[ Everything Is In/Flux] Ian and I liked it though he found The Wizards (Savages little brother) saying “California” all the time to be a bit whiney. The Power Glove is also prominently featured, being used by the nemesis of the film and everyone was in awe of it.

On Wikipedia and Archaeology
[ Bright Meadow] I was flicking through the latest edition of British Archaeology recently (number 88) (I need to at least pretend I am keeping up with my field) and an article caught my eye. It was in the new(ish) column on “On The Web”, which always feels a little crammed and tacked on, but I’m not the editor, so there’s nothing I can do about it.

Pulp Decameron
[Communications From Elsewhere] Given how little anyone cared about a legitimately crazy person making death threats, I was surprised this morning to read the story of a University of Florida grad student being hassled by his university police for having written a short story from the point of view of a stalker and murderer. I’d contact the UFL University Relations office to see if they’ve got a prepared statement about this incident, but the only contact information I can find is a phone number, and it’s a little late to be calling Florida.

Out WikiPedia, Hello Encyclopedia of Stupid
[Successful Blog - Talking business, swapping strategies, and building relationships] Wikipedia Called Us Nonsense So maybe you were around when we got mired in the labyrinth of the Wikipedia, or when we tried to find out why an article, written by Martin Neumann of the Small Office Herald about the Link Leak Virus, a term coined by Mike Sigers, was summarily deleted within minutes of its submission. I actually wrote to Wikipedia about the situation.

Can Blogs Resemble the Human Mind?
[Quantum Statement] The weblog, Metafilter (Meta Filter or MeFi), has evolved from a news filter / community blog into a reference site with a distributed folksonomy. The community of users that edit Metafilter adhere to explicit guidelines for what content is suitable for posting, how to respond to a post, and too many other rules of etiquette to list here.

[Free The Blogger] BEIJING ” Chinas biggest Internet search site, Baidu.com, has launched a Chinese-language encyclopedia inspired by the cooperative reference site Wikipedia, which the communist government bars Chinas Web surfers from seeing.
